Is your brand name free to trademark?
Type your brand name and what you sell. We'll suggest the right trademark classes, flag common reasons for refusal, and show similar names already on record.
How the check works
Class finder: every trademark is filed in one or more of 45 classes under the Nice Classification. Pick your type of business or describe what you sell, and we suggest the classes businesses like yours usually file in.
Name check: we test the name against the most common grounds of refusal in Section 9 of the Trade Marks Act, 1999: names that are not distinctive, that describe the goods or their place of origin, that are generic, or that use protected or religious names.
Similar marks: we compare the name, by spelling and by sound, with the trademarks in CorpBridge's database of company IP portfolios. Similar earlier marks in the same or related classes are the main reason for objections under Section 11.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check if a brand name is available for trademark in India?
Search the Trade Marks Registry for identical and similar marks in the classes you will file in, and check that the name is not descriptive, generic, a place name or a protected name. This tool does a first check and finds similar marks in our database; the official IP India public search covers the full register, and a trademark agent can do a complete search including similar-sounding marks.
Which trademark class should I file in?
File in each class that covers the goods or services you sell under the brand. There are 45 classes: 1 to 34 for goods and 35 to 45 for services. For example, a cafe files in Class 43, a clothing brand in Class 25, and a mobile app in Classes 9 and 42. Many businesses also file in Class 35 for retail or online selling.
What is the government fee per trademark class?
₹4,500 per class for individuals, startups and small enterprises, and ₹9,000 per class for other applicants, when filed online.
Can I register a trademark in more than one class?
Yes. You can file one application covering several classes, or separate applications per class. The government fee is charged for each class.
Is this trademark search the same as an official search?
No. This tool checks the name against common grounds of refusal and against the trademarks in CorpBridge's own database, which is not the full register. Use it as a first check, then search the official register or ask us for a full search before you file.
Is the search free and private?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up. The brand name you type is used only to run the search and is not stored, unless you choose to send us an enquiry.
