Protect your brand and invention outside India

Selling abroad, raising from overseas investors or licensing technology? An Indian registration stops at the border. We file your trademarks, patents and designs in other countries, through WIPO or directly, all coordinated from India and billed in rupees.

Trademarks abroad

International trademark registration

Use the Madrid Protocol to cover over 130 countries with one application based on your Indian trademark, or file directly in a country such as the USA, UK or UAE. Experienced trademark agents recommend the right route for each market.

Patents abroad

PCT (WIPO) and foreign patent filing

File a PCT international application within 12 months of your Indian filing to keep 150+ countries open until 30–31 months, or file directly in the USA, Europe and other key markets. Frequently asked questions

Is an Indian trademark or patent valid in other countries?

No. Trademarks, patents and designs are territorial: an Indian registration protects you only in India. To protect your brand or invention abroad, you file in each country or region, directly or through international systems such as the Madrid Protocol for trademarks and the PCT for patents.

How long do I have to file abroad after filing in India?

Under the Paris Convention, 6 months from your Indian filing for trademarks and designs, and 12 months for patents, to claim your Indian filing date as priority abroad.

What is WIPO?

The World Intellectual Property Organization, a UN agency in Geneva, administers the PCT system for international patent applications and the Madrid system for international trademarks.

Do Indian residents need permission to file a patent abroad?

Yes, under Section 39 of the Patents Act, unless the application was filed in India at least six weeks earlier with no secrecy direction. Otherwise, written permission on Form 25 is required.

Do you help foreign companies protect their IP in India?

Yes. We handle PCT national phase entry in India, Indian trademark and design filings, and act as the Indian associate for foreign law firms, reporting in English.
